Invicta Dynamics beat Bristol Huskies B 10-1 in a dominant women's hockey performance, Chelsea Meaney producing one of the individual displays of the season with five goals and three assists for eight points - including a hat-trick, a shorthanded goal while Invicta were serving a penalty, and three assists for teammates. Natalie Green and Freya McCune each added two goals, and the only blemish on an otherwise perfect afternoon was Harris's unassisted consolation for Bristol at 35:09.
Green and Bristol's Josie-Ann Crane were named joint players of the match - a fitting individual recognition for Crane in what was otherwise a very difficult afternoon for the visitors.
First period - five goals, two Invicta penalties
Cue was penalised for a bodycheck at 8:00 before Invicta's scoring began in earnest. Meaney opened at 3:24 from Prowse, McCune added the second at 12:37 from Beltrami, Meaney scored her second at 13:58 from Prowse to make it 3-0, Green scored at 15:56 from Meaney to make it 4-0, and Green added a fifth at 20:18 from Meaney again to make it 5-0 at the first break. Five goals in seventeen minutes. Meaney directly involved in four of the five.
Second period - four more goals, Bristol's consolation
The second period continued in the same vein. Barrett scored at 25:32 from Meaney to make it 6-0. Meaney completed her hat-trick at 25:41 - unassisted, nine seconds after Barrett's goal - to make it 7-0. Meaney scored her fourth at 29:48 from Phipps to make it 8-0. McCune added her second at 31:46 unassisted to make it 9-0. Harris scored Bristol's consolation at 35:09 unassisted - Invicta's first goal conceded - to pull it back to 9-1.
Third period - Meaney's shorthanded goal seals the ten
McCune was penalised for hooking at 52:31, and Meaney scored shorthanded at 53:14 unassisted - scoring while killing her own team's penalty to complete a remarkable individual evening and make the final score 10-1. Sheppard was penalised for tripping at 46:24 without converting.
Meaney's eight-point evening
Five goals - four even strength and one shorthanded - and three assists. Eight points in one match. Meaney's contributions covered the opening goal, the hat-trick, assists for Green's two goals and Barrett's goal, and the closing shorthanded marker. It is the kind of individual performance that defines a player's season and reflects the quality gap between these two sides on the day.
