Invicta Dynamics beat Coventry Phoenix 5-0 in a match that ended prematurely after the Phoenix goalkeeper was injured and unable to continue. The final whistle came with the score already beyond doubt, Invicta having dominated from the opening minutes with five different scorers across the two completed periods.

Charlotte Davenport-Jeffery and Chelsea Meaney both finished with two goals and two assists apiece — four points each in a match that showed Invicta at their cohesive best, with Jemma Barrett and Maxine Hancock named joint players of the match by both sides.

A commanding first period

Barrett opened the scoring at 7:40 from Podstawka and Davenport-Jeffery, before Ponter was penalised for cross-checking at 16:29 to give Invicta a power play. Davenport-Jeffery converted it at 16:39 from Meaney's assist to make it 2-0. With just nine seconds of the first period remaining, Davenport-Jeffery struck again at 19:51 — Steggles and Meaney assisting — to put Invicta three goals ahead at the first break. Three goals in under twenty minutes, the last of them nine seconds before the buzzer.

Second period continues the dominance — injury ends the match

The second period continued in the same vein. Meaney scored at 29:26 from Davenport-Jeffery's assist to make it 4-0, before offsetting roughing calls — Grey (INV) and Farestvedt (PHO) — at 26:47 cancelled each other out. Meaney added a fifth at 32:46 from Steggles to make it 5-0 and complete her brace.

Shortly after, the Phoenix goalkeeper was injured and unable to continue. With no backup available to take over, the match was brought to a close. Coventry had been outscored 5-0 across the first two periods and the result was already well established when play stopped.

Davenport-Jeffery, Meaney and the Steggles connection

The individual performance of the match came from Davenport-Jeffery and Meaney in tandem. Davenport-Jeffery scored twice — one power play, one even strength — and assisted twice, including on Meaney's first goal. Meaney scored twice — both even strength — and assisted twice, including on both of Davenport-Jeffery's goals. The two players combined on four of Invicta's five goals. Steggles contributed two assists without a goal, quietly threading through several key sequences.

Barrett's opening goal and the player of the match award — shared with Hancock — reflects a broader Invicta side that spread the contribution across the roster rather than relying on a single individual.

A note on the result

Coventry Phoenix will be disappointed not to have had the chance to respond after the goalkeeper injury ended the match, but the scoreline at the time of stoppage was 5-0 and reflects a performance gap on the day. Invicta were the better side from the first minute and thoroughly merited the result.
