Guildford Flames beat Glasgow Clan 3-2 at the Guildford Spectrum on Saturday evening, Jack Jacome scoring all three goals in a performance that will be remembered for the clinical use of two power plays as much as for the individual brilliance it required. Jacome's winning goal at 56:45 came from a Fram tripping call at 54:52, with Burke having already received a 10-minute abuse of officials misconduct at the same moment — a double Glasgow penalty that handed Guildford the decisive power play with just over five minutes remaining.
It is four wins from five for Guildford — W, W, L, W, W — and their home form continues to be a bedrock of their season. Glasgow, by contrast, slip back to their alternating pattern after Friday's 5-0 win at Braehead, and Clan will rue a discipline record that handed the match to their opponents.
Glasgow lead, Jacome levels
Glasgow made a positive start. Schwartz scored at 3:28 — Hazeldine and Langan assisting — to give Clan an early advantage. Gosselin was penalised for slashing at 11:55, and Jacome equalised for Guildford at 11:36 — just before the penalty, from Busch and Racine — to make it 1-1. Simultaneous penalties on McKay (GLA) and Jacome (GUI) plus Busch (GUI) at 19:38 produced offsetting calls with no scoring impact, and the first period ended 1-1.
Messner restores Glasgow's lead — Jacome hits back on the power play
The second period saw Glasgow pull ahead. Messner scored at 31:58 from Burke and Risk to make it 1-2 — a third goal in three matches for Messner across the weekend double. Neilson was penalised for diving at 26:40, a fight between Solder (GUI) and Roy (GLA) produced five-minute majors for both at 29:23, and Langan was penalised for hooking at 35:11. Jacome converted the resulting power play at 35:47 — Strang and Curti assisting — to level at 2-2. McKay was penalised again for tripping at 38:59 but Guildford couldn't convert.
The second period ended 2-2 with everything still to play.
Burke's misconduct — Jacome wins it
The third period's decisive moment came at 54:52, when Fram was penalised for tripping and Burke simultaneously received a 10-minute abuse of officials misconduct. Guildford had a power play and an opponent reduced in effectiveness for the remainder of the match. Jacome scored at 56:45 from Busch and Waller — his third goal, his hat-trick — to make it 3-2.
Glasgow called their timeout at 57:36 and immediately pulled their goalkeeper for an extra skater. They pushed hard but couldn't find the equaliser, and the 3-2 result stood. Aittokallio in goal for Glasgow had been the better keeper for much of the match, but was unable to deny Jacome's two power play conversions or the hat-trick that sealed it.
