Glasgow Clan kept their second clean sheet in seven days with a commanding 5-0 win over Fife Flyers at Braehead Arena on Friday evening, Mick Messner scoring twice and five different players getting on the scoresheet as Clan extended their strong recent form. The result follows last Saturday's 3-1 win at Belfast, and reinforces Glasgow as one of the EIHL's most in-form sides heading into the final weeks of the regular season.

For Fife, this is a fifth consecutive defeat and they remain without a win in five. Seven penalties conceded across the evening — including two from Jameson in the opening eight seconds of the match — made for an undisciplined night that Glasgow capitalised on efficiently.

Fife penalised twice in eight seconds — Glasgow score twice in 36

The first period was defined by Fife's poor discipline and Glasgow's clinical use of it. Jameson was penalised for hooking at just 0:08 — the second the clock started — and again for slashing at 6:28, giving Glasgow an immediate power play from the very first face-off. Masella added a cross-checking penalty at 18:03 before Glasgow struck twice in the closing 36 seconds of the period. Messner converted the power play at 18:49 from Seigo and Langan, and Risk scored 36 seconds later at 19:25 from Lachowicz and Neilson — the buzzer barely heard before Glasgow were celebrating a 2-0 lead at the break.

Two goals in 36 seconds to end the period. Soulière in the Glasgow goal had barely been threatened.

Fram makes it three — Fife penalised again

The second period added a third goal through Fram at 24:53 — Langan and Neumann assisting — after Masella had been penalised again for cross-checking at 26:22. Winquist's tripping at 37:13 gave Glasgow a further power play they didn't need to convert. The second period ended 3-0 and Fife's evening was over as a contest.

Two in 22 seconds seal it in the third

The third period brought two more Glasgow goals in quick succession. Schwartz scored at 54:27 — Neumann and Teppo assisting — and Messner completed his brace 22 seconds later at 54:49 from Roy and Burke to make it 5-0. A triple roughing call at 44:38 — Hunt twice and Teppo once, all coincidental — preceded the goals without changing the outcome.

Owen in the Fife goal had a difficult evening, conceding five to a side playing with real confidence and cohesion. Soulière was excellent for Glasgow when called upon, his clean sheet all the more comfortable given how rarely Fife threatened.

Glasgow's form and what it means

Clan now have results of W, OTL, W across their last three — including Tuesday's win at Belfast and this comfortable home shutout. The OTL came against Sheffield in overtime, meaning Glasgow have dropped just one point in three matches. Messner's two goals give him a consistent run of form at the sharp end of the season, and the Langan-Neumann combination contributing assists across the evening is becoming a reliable creative thread. For a side that looked inconsistent a fortnight ago, this is an encouraging trajectory.
