Guildford Flames collected a valuable away win at Dundee Ice Arena on Friday evening, coming from a goal down to beat the Stars 3-1 in a match that turned decisively in the second period. Three unanswered goals from the visitors after the first intermission told the story of the evening — and of a Guildford side that has now won three of their last four coming into the weekend.
For Dundee, it is a third consecutive league defeat, and a frustrating one given they held the lead at the break and created enough to make Guildford work throughout.
Curran puts dundee in front
John Curran opened the scoring at 14:34 in the first period from Spencer Naas and Kameron Kielly's assists — a composed finish that gave the Stars a deserved lead and sent them into the first intermission on top. Keanu Yamamoto's slashing penalty at 26:57 midway through the second period gave Guildford their first meaningful power play, and the Flames made it count.
Guildford's response was built around a single combination that produced three of their goals in strikingly symmetrical fashion. Samuel Talbot equalised at 30:31, assisted by Josh Nixon. Jack Jacome made it 2-1 at 37:19 from Ethan Strang and Tyler Busch. Then Nixon completed the scoring at 49:31 — assisted by Talbot.
Talbot scores, Nixon assists. Nixon scores, Talbot assists. It is a neat reversal across two goals that bookend Guildford's win and show the fluid understanding between the two players. Between them, Talbot and Nixon each contributed a goal and an assist on the night, and the third goal came from the Strang-Busch combination to keep Dundee's defence stretched throughout.
Dundee push late but can't find a way through
Dundee pressed in the third period, with Jonathan McBean penalised for hooking at 41:31 — the only Dundee power play opportunity of the third period going the wrong way — but Guildford held firm. A roughing altercation at 59:25 saw Matthew Boudens (DUN) and Jamal Watson (GUI, double minor) both penalised in the dying seconds, but the match had already been decided by then.
Emil Kruse was kept busy in the Dundee goal across the second and third periods. Justin Fazio in the Guildford net had a more comfortable evening once his side took the lead.
For Guildford, this away win — following last Friday's narrow 3-4 home defeat to Fife and Saturday's overtime win at Glasgow — represents a solid return from a demanding week. Three from four points available on the road is a strong result.
