Telford Tigers beat Leeds Knights 4-3 in overtime at Telford Ice Rink on Sunday evening to level their NIHL play-off series and force a deciding encounter, Danny Rose scoring the overtime winner at 64:55 from P. Brown's assist to settle a fiercely contested second leg. Henderson scored twice, Thomson converted once — and Leeds, who had taken a 3-2 lead into the third period through two goals in four minutes, were denied the aggregate victory by Henderson's equaliser at 52:08 and Rose's decisive overtime strike.

Telford's play-off exit had been sealed by Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Leeds — or so it appeared. Sunday's 4-3 home win means the series is level and a decider will follow. For Leeds, winning at home 24 hours ago and leading 3-2 in the third period today, this is a frustrating result that extends the play-off to a further match.

A goalless first — but not without incident

The first period was scoreless despite H. Ferguson being penalised for slashing at 11:40. Neither side could convert and the match went into the first break goalless.

The second period — five goals and a penalty burst at 28:34

The second period was the match in miniature. Thomson was penalised for interference at 20:00, and Dunn converted the resulting Leeds power play at 20:58 — Bissonnette and Peyton assisting — to give Leeds a 1-0 lead immediately. Thomson was thus penalised for a goal-creating infringement within the first minute of the second period.

At 21:24 Griffin was penalised for slashing, at 22:53 McPhee for interference. Henderson scored at 32:02 to level at 1-1 — McPhee and P. Brown assisting. McPhee was penalised for slashing at 35:58 before Thomson scored unassisted at 38:39 to make it 1-2, giving Telford a one-goal lead heading into the second break.

Then, at 28:34 — simultaneous penalties on Vengis (two: roughing and interference), Mather (roughing) and Fugalis (tripping) — a four-penalty burst that didn't produce a goal but reflected the intensity of a match where both sides had plenty to play for.

The third period — Leeds lead 3-2, Henderson levels, Rose wins it in OT

Leeds came out strongly in the third. Vengis scored unassisted at 42:16 to level at 2-2, and Sobchak scored at 46:04 from Bissonnette and Griffin to give Leeds a 3-2 lead — Bissonnette involved in the assist for the second time in the match. Perre was penalised for interference at 51:06.

Henderson equalised at 52:08 from Thomson and McPhee — the same McPhee-Thomson-Henderson combination that built Telford's second-period goal — to level at 3-3. Telford called their timeout at 59:53 with the match still level heading into overtime.

Rose scored at 64:55 from P. Brown to win it for Telford. The series is level. A decider awaits.
